Acorn-fed Iberico ham from Extremadura
Gourmet MadridThis Bellota Ham comes from 50% Iberian breed pigs raised in freedom and fed exclusively on acorns, herbs and roots. The curing times are more than 36 months.
This acorn-fed ham is 50% Iberian, which translates into less fatty pieces. This gives it a perfect balance with the characteristic flavour of acorn-fed ham.
Perfect infiltration of fat in the musculature which gives a good texture to each bite of ham. Produced in the province of Badajoz, which is one of the privileged areas of Iberian pig breeding in Spain and where there is an authentic tradition. The extensions of oak forests are enormous and the diet is very rich in acorns.
The province of Badajoz and the province of Cáceres form the region of Extremadura. This region has a strong livestock activity of the best Iberian pig breeds and has the richest holm oak ecosystem in Spain. This region is the origin of the Iberian pig and they have roamed the fields for centuries.
These animals eat a large amount of acorns throughout the day, which gives the acorn-fed ham its quality. To have a quality of ham like this, each animal will have one hectare (10,000 m2). That is to say that in 200 hectares there will be 200 pigs that will have a real quality of life.
Each piece is controlled and has an official red seal at the end of the leg that guarantees the quality of the ham.
